I am not a huge fan of illuminations, especially for those super colourful illuminations. I am working for True Taste Tokyo as a freelance writer, so I did some research about this years Christmas illuminations in Tokyo. This one is in Tokyo Dome, my language school actually just beside it, but I never been there before. This year is Italian relevant theme.
The Christmas illumination until 19th February 2017, so if you want some place quiet. Tokyo Dome can be a good place to enjoy a holiday season. You can easily access it by taking Sobu Line and get off at Suidobashi Station. From station to Tokyo Dome is about 5 minutes work. There are lots of restaurants, cafes and entertainment around Tokyo Dome area. If you want to enjoy some local Japanese food instead of those chains. Then face Suidobashi JR Station, cross the road and go right. There are lots of individual small restaurants at there.
Tokyo Dome is bigger than I thought. I went there around 5:30 pm. There are no events that day, so there are fewer people than usual. You will see a map of each area by the entrance on the ground/1st floor. I found this map at the end because I accessed from the second floor. I recommend this route, so you might avoid most of the people taking pictures of the same thing at the beginning.
I personally prefer white or golden lights only. It makes me feel more like Christmas/holiday season. Colourful lights make my eyes feel not very comfortable XD. So far my favourite Christmas illumination 2017 is Omotesando. Not too much colourful lights, just simple and clean lights on the side of the trees.
